Rational Pest Control

Pest control can be a frustrating topic. There may be more bad information on this subject than any other environmental issue that the average homeowner has to deal with. A little sanity on the issue goes a long way, and we have some suggestions on how to practice safe and sane pest control, without letting the pests control you, and without damage to your home environment! >>>

  • There is more to controlling pests than simply spraying a batch of neuro toxins around your home.
  • There is more to controlling pests than using organic pest control techniques, or replacing the toxins with less toxic botanical formulations.
  • There is more to pest control than what you will find in the standard texts on the subject of integrated pest management, although integrated pest management is the place to start.

IPM can offer a way to organize our thinking about pest management, but the standard form usually starts in the wrong place. Many of the orgonizations promoting IPM have modified their definitions of what integrated pest management should be, and they are coming around to a more rational way of looking at pest management.

IPM is using all the pest management tools, and starting with the least toxic. The least toxic form of pest control is always pest prevention! In most cases, little else is needed.
